So I lost my chance...

..... I just heard on the news that Shakira is gonna get married..... I will crawl back under my rock until I find a new love.... Fernando de la Rua, the former president of Argentina, says his son Antonio and the 'Hips Don't Lie' singer - who have been dating for five years - have discussed tying the knot but haven't set a date.
He is quoted as saying: "They prefer to wait. Kids today would rather live as a couple they don't believe that marriage is necessary to be happy."
Fernando has also revealed that he is very fond of his future daughter-in-law.
He added: "Shakira is a very good woman, she is very loving to her parents and with her in-laws as well.
"She is a lover of peace who is concerned about those less fortunate than herself."
Meanwhile, Shakira has admitted she doesn't understand her sex symbol status.
The 28-year-old star insists she is very shy and quiet in real life, the opposite of her sultry pop persona.
She recently said: "My videos represent the artist in me very well, not the woman I am.
"When they watch my videos, people think I'm a very sexually aggressive person, but I am completely the opposite. I'm not as self-confident as it seems when I'm on the stage. I have lots of insecurities. I am actually very shy."

Kinky London bridge

yesterday i was having a conversation with a friend about summer plans, then one thing led to another and the topic jumped to travelling, london, and finally the song london bridge by fergie:

"How come everytime you come around,
My London, London bridge, wanna go down like,
London, London, London, wanna go down like,
London, London, London, we goin’ down like…"

when i first heard the song i wondered what she meant with london bridge, and even asked some friends if they knew, but it remained a mystery and eventually i forgot about it... until now. i decided to solve this enigma and satisfy my mild curiosity once and for all. this investigation took a whole 30 sec of web research and here goes:

The number 23... really ?

earlier number 23 at its best i was idly watching showtime - which sucks so bad now but that's beside the point - and one of the movie channels was running a bit about the movie the number 23 starring jim carrey.

is it just me or does this sound like a really stupid idea ? they showed some bits of the movie and they were all about how numbers in carrey's life always add up to 23 (social security #, birthday etc). i don't know, it just sounds silly to me. surprisingly, it got a good score on imdb. but that doesn't always mean the movie's good - i mean lord of the rings and star wars are up there too, so how accurate can this thing be ?

on a side note - if the number 23 had a sequel, what would it be called ?

* i just realized, the digits in my birth date (day + month + year) add up to 23.. oooooh... spooooooky

End of the road

yesterday a friend of mine told me that boyz II men were going to perform in dubai soon. her voice was full of nostalgia - for let's face it, the boyz were an integral part of us growing up in the early 90's. she asked wether i wanted to go see them perform; i told her to go listen to 1 of their songs right now and see how much they suck. then apologized for insulting our childhood.

i don't know how we used to listen to this - along with other similar lovey dovey r&b drama. i tried to make a "school days cd" a couple of months back, and couldn't bring myself to re-listen to jodeci, shai, swv, color me badd, silk.... the only ones which still sound good are pm dawn, en vogue, tlc

funny how tastes change, musical and other

Word ?

geeksta rap: form of rap music that is performed by nerds or geeks, and is characterized by themes and subject matter considered to be of general interest to nerds.

Example Citation:
by Rajeev Bajaj, a Silicon Valley entrepreneur:

"Hot electrons can ruin my day
Switch the transistor to go the other way
I make my software self-healing
To prevent such a calamity from dealing
A deadly blow to my directory root
If all else fails...... YO, REBOOT!"

um.. are they for real ?

Facebook

there is one word i've been hearing more often than yabeela lately, and it's facebook.

According to Chris Hughes, spokesman for Facebook, "People spend an average of 19 minutes a day on Facebook."In a 2006 study conducted by Student Monitor (...), Facebook was named as the second most "in" thing among undergraduates, tied with beer and sex and losing only to the iPod.

apparently, it started as a university networking tool by some harvard student; for fun, here's his picture.

Mark Zuckerberg

i'm not on facebook, but i do have an ipod :)

not planning to get on it, but never say never...

* btw a friend of mine used it as a verb today - as in "facebook it"

bear in mind that women play 3-set matches and men play 5-set matches

in other words, women will get as much $$ as the men for almost half the effort ;)
