A thursday post

- what do the baladi elections and the blackberry have in common ? all of a sudden, everyone is paying undivided attention to the baladi elections.. which in the past have been more secondary and below the radar. now everyone is talking about it, it's like a habba

- so this morning on my way to work i switched to mix fm, and the song "because i got high" was playing.. lol i certainly didnt expect that, and wonder if there is a whirl of angry parents calling the station to scold them for putting bad ideas into their kids' heads

- yesterday i finally tried skype. i cant believe i've waited until now to use it, it's fantastic and the face to face thing is unbeatable.. not to mention free

- i'm never going to avenues on a friday night again. it's like a zoo. but hopefully 360 will take some of the load. but then again thats what we said about avenues when it opened, there always seems to be enough ppl to fill all locations on thursday and friday nights

- i recommend the book "outliers" by malcom gladwell. it's really cool

when it comes to habbat (fads), i’ve always been the laaast person to hop on the wagon.. it happened with facebook, which i only joined last year, i just bought my first pair of gladiator sandals, and just recently i got a … yes u guessed it, crackberry (bold)

although now that i’ve seen the iphone 3GS and the OS3.0 releases, I dunno anymore… technology moves fast !

Toshiba sucks

so last night after i put up the last 2 posts below, i was browsing and reading some blogs when..... all of a sudden, out of nowhere, my laptop screen started looking as if it were fracturing / melting, until the whole screen looked like irregular yellow & black intertwined patterns. and that was that, restarting (i.e. taking the battery out and putting it back in) didnt help. so i calmly shut it, turned the lights off and went to sleep.

if it still refuses to work today, thats it - i'm getting a mac.

Music help

so i'm building a playlist for a marathon i'm planning to run next month, and i have some pretty good tracks on there but i need some help

there are songs that seem to be made for running, whenever i listen to them i feel like my pace naturally picks up and i feel more energetic, like:

- lose my breath

what else should i add ?

we've all noticed the growing presence of Russians in dubai lately. well i found this note plastered in my hotel room and thought it was pretty funny (click to enlarge):


basically hotel management is politely asking hotel guests to dress appropriately and in line with the country's culture and traditions. i wonder what they saw in order to feel compelled to write such a note !

i've never seen the airport arrivals/baggage claim area packed as much as today. everyone and their mother were coming back into town

it took 25 minutes just to get out of the parking lot

i'm at the airport right now, and as i went through passport control after cehck in, the guy looks at me straight in the eyes and says "you cant travel, there's a "man3 sefar" (a block) on your name, i'm sorry." so i think to myself SH*T, my traffic fines have finally caught up with me and i'm screwed.

then he smirks and says "it's ok, i'll let it slide and let you through this time."
