Strangest thing

yesterday i had a 2 hour meeting with 3 american consultants and a Kuwait colleague (never met him before), all male. judging from his beard, he’s the extremely dayyin (i.e. religious) type – let’s call him Ned

worth mentioning is that i was leading the meeting, which means that i was doing about half of the talking.

the weird thing is that during the whole 2 hours, Ned did not – not once – look me in the eyes. so every time i addressed him or he addressed me directly, he would turn his head to my direction but look down or to the side. so strange ! and very distracting… it’s amusing at first, but then becomes kind of offensive – like it’s forbidden to look at me, because that would stir unholy, sinful thoughts in his mind. ew

seriously - have some self-control, Ned (No Eye-contact Dude)

Ofcourse he musn't make eye contact. Women are objects of sex and desire, they are the core of every evil. They are the cause of every catastrophe and war. They are walking boobs, butts and vagay-gays! (did i spell that rite?:/)

maybe vajay-jay...

And he was clearly just teasing you, playing hard to get. The little minx.

I think they think that they're being respectful or some lame crap like that.

I think if his name was Ned he wouldn't have a beard....

And Ned thinks that if he looks at you, he'll have to go wash himself before prayer because your DIRTY. Women are DIRTY to them. Just like dogs....woof woof

Maybe Neds eyes were weighed down by his beard and therefore not allowing him to look straight at you?

Qaala Ta'aalah:

{Tell the believing men to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts, etc.). That is purer for them. Verily, Allâh is All-Aware of what they do.} (An-Nur 24:30)

{And tell the believing women to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts, etc.)...} (An-Nur 24:31)

Wa qaala an-Nabi SallAllaahu 'Alayhi wa-Sallam:

"Allah has written for Adam's son his share of adultery which he commits inevitably. The adultery of the eyes is the sight (to gaze at a forbidden thing), the adultery of the tongue is the talk, and the inner self wishes and desires and the private parts testify all this or deny it." (Saheeh al-Bukhaari No. 5844)

He, 'alayhi as-Salaat was-Salaam, also said:

"O young people! Whoever among you can marry, should marry, because it helps him lower his gaze and guard his modesty (i.e. his private parts from committing illegal sexual intercourse etc.), and whoever is not able to marry, should fast, as fasting diminishes his sexual power." (Saheeh al-Bukhaari No. 4734)

Indeed, nifaaq is disgusting. I say to the man who refused to look at you: Baarak Allaahu feek, wa Jazaak Allaahu khayraa; and I say to you: arrogant woman, it was not because of your supposed beauty that the Muslim did not look at you, rather it was because Allaah commanded him not to.

Allaah yahdeekum.

eshsa3wa... i thought so too until I had a professor who was like that. It got more annoying by the day. Especially when I had to ask him questions regarding something, he'd look on the ground and I'm trying hardly to explain what I mean using gestures and all. Madree, wasn't comfortable at all. Made me feel like my existence was sinful

I think that there are instances when a man should not look at a woman and not undress her with his eyes. Bas in work situations thats just plain stupid because your colleagues adn tahts it hes not supposed to have any sexual ideas on his mind ! So frustrating

I do understand the mentality and reasoning behind it but it really does not help in a business situation, does it? Instead of concentrating on the meeting you become self-conscious.

chirp: i think some people conform to this "rule" blindly, wihtout really thinking about it and how it could affect the workplace

jeweira: it was extremely distracting to me
